In a process for the production of pure ribonuclease, an aqueous solution of crude ribonuclease is extracted with phenol, ribonuclease is precipitated from the phenolic extract by the addition of ethyl alcohol, the precipitated ribonuclease is taken up in water, and the aqueous solution thus obtained is lyophilized to give pure ribonuclease. The product may again be dissolved in water and filtered through a molecular sieve to obtain chemically pure ribonuclease free from other enzymes.
