Abstract
A process for preparing proteinase comprises cultivating Pseudomonas aeruginosa under aerobic conditions in a synthetic medium containing non-carbohydrate as its sole carbon nutrient and thereafter separating the prepared proteinase from the nutrient medium. The carbon source may be crude oil or a fraction thereof, or a polyhydric alcohol, and the nitrogen source may include yeast extract, ammonium sulphate, peptone, meat extract corn steep liquor, or casein hydrolysate. The proteinase produced also has elastolytic activity.
