Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polysaccharide in high yield, by cultivating a new strain, Pseudomonas sp. GD-96, belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, in a bacterium cultivating medium comprising methanol as a carbon source.
CONSTITUTION: Methanol as a main carbon source is added to a medium comprising a nitrogen source, e.g., NH4NO3, KH2PO4, MgSO4, CaCl2, vitamin, etc. The strain Pseudomonas sp. GD-96(FERM-P 5194) is inoculated on a medium to which methanol is added, and cultivated usually under aerobic conditions. For example, the cultivation is carried out by cultivating under agitation or agitation with aeration in a pH of the medium 6.5W7.5.
