Abstract
1,173,531. Looms. J. D. RIORDAN and G. C. LIBBY. 5 Jan., 1967 [29 Aug., 1966], No. 720/67. Heading D1E. A loom selvedge stabiliser comprises a thin plate 20 mounted at its forward end to project rearwardly beyond the fell 28 and downwardly from the plane of the threads at the top of the shed 12 to below the plane of the threads at the bottom of the shed. The underside of the plate has a forwardly extending edge 34 to a bill 24 forming a hook with a throat 40. The plate may be positioned adjacent the edge of the fabric or located inwardly of the outer active reed dent and serves to space weft inserted by a needle 10 from the previously beaten-up weft to provide slack to prevent "necking" of the fabric. The opposite edge of the fabric may be knitted by a needle 14.
