Abstract

1,173,496. Polyisobutylene/bitumen compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 7 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 10618/67. Headings C3N and C3P. A thermoplastic composition comprises (A) 1 to 69 parts by weight of bitumen having a penetration of from 1 to 210, (B) 0.5 to 69.5 parts of a copolymer containing from 30 to 97% by weight of ethylene and from 70 to 3% of one or more monomers selected from vinyl esters of acetic or propionic acids, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alkanols having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and the nitriles and amides, of acrylic and methacrylic acids and (C) more than 30 but not more than 95 parts of polyisobutylene having a molecular weight of from 1000 to 200,000, the total of the parts by weight of (A) to (C) being 100. The composition may also contain 0.1 to 5 parts of an oily butadiene polymer containing 50 to 100% of butadiene and 0 to 50% of styrene or alpha-methyl styrene and/or 0.5 to 10 parts of an aliphatic polysulphide, and a mineral filler, e.g. sand or stone chips of particle size 0.09 to 20 mm. In examples, the compositions comprise (A) and (C) together with (i) a copolymer of ethylene and n-butyl acrylate or vinyl acetate, (ii) an ethylene/t-butyl acrylate copolymer and an oily butadiene/alpha-methyl styrene copolymer or (iii) an ethylene/n-butyl acrylate copolymer and slate flow.
