Abstract
1,172,872. Armoured electric cable. SOC. DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTROMECANIQUES JEUMONT-SCHNEIDER. 21 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966; 8 June, 1966; 25 Jan., 1967], No. 8278/67. Heading H1A. An armoured, low voltage, polyphase distribution cable has fluid-tight-insulated phase conductors stranded with an uninsulated, neutral conductor which is in contact with a metal band over its whole length. As shown, Fig. 1, the phase conductors 1 are sector-shaped P.V.C. sheathed copper or aluminium. The uninsulated neutral conductor 2 is in contact with the helical stranded metal strips 4 and 5, which provide both screening and mechanical protection. Strips 4, 5 are protected by an outer sheath 6 which may be of conducting, semi-conducting or insulating material. In the case of a non-insulating sheath 6, strips 4 and 5, and hence the neutral conductor are earthed over their entire lengths. The neutral conductor may be of mixed constitution, comprising steel wires for rigidity and/or parallel conductor wires. If the neutral conductor wires are of aluminium, the neutral conductor has a lead sheath 7 (Fig. 2, not shown) for protection from oxidation and corrosion. Phase and neutral conductors are stranded with a relatively large pitch to facilitate junctions to the phase and neutral conductors.
