Abstract

1,172,620. Two-part couplings. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 29 Aug., 1968 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 58281/67. Heading H2E. A connector for making connections to a printed circuit board has means operated by fluid pressure for moving the connector contacts into and out of engagement with the board, thus allowing the board to be easily withdrawn when the contacts are in the " open " position. The connector for contacting the board 2 has two rows of spring contacts 1 along the backs of which runs a doubled back fluid filled closed, tube 3 of flexible material, e.g. rubber or plastics material. The pressure of the fluid in the tube 3 is increased to urge the contacts 1 into contact with the board 2, by plunger 7 being forced into the re-entrant end 5 of the tube 3, a metal sleeve 6 ensuring that expansion of the tube 3 takes place over the operational portions. The plunger 7 is spring loaded at 9 operated by a button 11 and held in the " closed" position by a catch 10.
