Abstract

1,171,910. Electrophotographic materials. RANK XEROX Ltd. 24 Nov., 1966. [30 Nov., 1965], No. 52613/66. Heading H1K. A xerographic plate has a conductive support bearing a bound layer of A<SP>III</SP>B<SP>V</SP> photoconductor particles, the material of these particles having a resistivity of at least 10<SP>10</SP> ohm. cms. Photoconductors identified are gallium phosphide, gallium arseno-phosphide, aluminium phosphide, and boron phosphide. Mixtures of these may be used. The desired high resistivity may be obtained by doping the photo-conductor with one or more of copper, silver, gold, iron cobalt, nickel, manganese, chromium, or oxygen. A process is described in which the photoconductor is heated in a hydrogen-water vapour atmosphere to give oxygen doping. It is suggested that alternatively the high resistivity may be achieved by purification of the photoconductor. Specified binders are polyacrylic acid esters, polybutyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, copoly(vinylchloride-vinyl acetate), and organic charge transfertype photo-conductors. The photo-conductive layer may contain unspecified sensitizing dyes and other additives to modify its properties. Suitable supports are of aluminium, copper, nickel, steel, bronze, glass, paper, aluminiumcoated glass, engraver's copper or nickel, grained litho zinc, or synthetic thermoplastics.
