Abstract

1,171,549. Adaptors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 14 Oct., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No. 47333/67. Heading H2E. An adaptor, for connecting two different electronic modular unit systems, comprises a multiple contact plug or socket connector unit 1 with an edge connector strip 7 mounted thereon. Expandible extensions, which are preferably split nuts 11 of hexagonal crosssection, are provided on the plug or socket unit and are intended to be received in complementary sockets in a module-receiving rack, the split nut being expanded when in position by a tapered screw (12) so firmly securing the adaptor. The plug connector unit may be a NIMS unit, and the edge connector strip a CAMAC unit. In the body of the NIMS unit 1 is a multiplicity of holes 2 into which plug or socket contacts are selectively located; these are connected by wires to the edge connector contacts 6. The screws 4, which secure the block 5 to lugs 3 at each end of the body 1, have heads which are in the form of plug-and-socket connectors and which may be used for making an earth connection. The edge connector strip 7 may be full length, or cut away, as shown, if only a few contacts 6 are required. A slot 9 engages with the bottom of an edge connector socket body to ensure correct connection between contacts 6 and the contacts of a CAMAC edge connector socket.
