Abstract

1,171,335. Valves. A. JORDAN, [trading as A. JORDAN METALLWARENFABRIK]. 20 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 3089/67. Heading F2V. A pressure cooker valve is formed with a central spring-loaded pressure indicator 8, axially displaceable within the bore 7 of a valve closure member 6 which is also spring loaded and, with the housing 3, which is secured to the cooker lid 2, acts as a pressure relief valve. Both springs 10 and 15 are held at their lowermost extremities, within annular grooves 13, 14 respectively, so that when dismantling the valve, as by unscrewing caps 16 and 9, the springs are not ejected. Excessive compression of the indicator spring 10 is prevented by providing the indicator with a shoulder 28 which may abut the head 19 of cap 9 to limit this displacement, simultaneously increasing the opening force applied to member 6. In use, steam firstly enters a buffer chamber 22, formed between the housing and closure member, after which member 6 rises further, thereby uncovering outlet 17. The excess pressure is rapidly relieved subsequent to which the valve member is re-seated. A small conduit 30, leading from the buffer chamber, serves to relieve pressure within it when the valve is closing whilst bores 18 are provided for discharging water of condensation which forms within the cap 9.
