Abstract

1,171,237. Graft polymer blends. BORG WARNER CORP. 22 Nov., 1967 [5 Dec., 1966], No. 53232/67. Heading C3G. A thermoplastic blend comprises (a) a graft polymer prepared by polymerizing a monovinyl aromatic monomer of the formula wherein each X represents hydrogen, chlorine or bromine or an alkyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms and an acrylic monomer of the formula wherein X is as defined above and Y represents a cyano or carboalkoxy group wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 12 carbon atoms in the presence of a prepolymerized homopolymer of a conjugated diene of the formula wherein X is as defined above or a copolymer of said conjugated diene with one of the aforesaid monovinyl aromatic monomers or acrylic monomers and (b) a rubbery terpolymer prepared by the polymerization in the presence of each other of one of the aforesaid monovinyl aromatic monomers, one of the aforesaid acrylic monomers and one of the aforesaid conjugated diene monomers. Examples are given in which (a) is a graft polymer of styrene and acrylonitrile on polybutadiene and (b) is a styrene-acrylonitrile-butadiene terpolymer.
