Abstract

1,199,543. Graft polymer-vinyl chloride polymer blends. BORG-WARNER CORP. 14 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 13692/69. Heading C3G. A thermoplastic blend comprises from 5 to 95% by weight of an ABS graft polymer/ABS terpolymer composition comprised of (a) a graft polymer prepared by polymerizing a monovinyl aromatic monomer of the Formula I wherein X is selected from hydrogen, C 1 to C 5 - alkyl groups, chloro and bromo and an acrylic monomer of Formula II wherein X is as defined above and Y is selected from cyano and carbalkoxy, wherein the alkyl group of the carbalkoxy group contains 1 to 12 carbon atoms, in the presence of a prepolymerized polymer selected from conjugated diene homopolymers and copolymers, said homopolymers being prepared from conjugated dienes of the Formula III wherein X is as defined above and said copolymers being prepared from said conjugated dienes copolymerized with a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer or acrylic monomer and (b) a terpolymer prepared from a monomer of Formula I, a monomer of Formula II and a monomer of Formula III, wherein said monomers are polymerized in the presence of each other and correspondingly 95 to 5% by weight of polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with a minor amount of vinylidene chloride. Examples are given in which the blends comprise polybutadiene grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile, butadiene-styreneacrylonitrile terpolymer, polyvinyl chloride and, in some cases, acelaic acid plasticizer, tris- (nonylphenyl phosphite), ethylene oxide/poly- (propylene glycol) condensate, dibutyltin-5,5<SP>1</SP>- bis - (isooctylmercatpoacetate) and calcium stearate.
