Methyl methacrylate and alpha-methyl styrene are grafted on to a rubber in latex form by a process in which the graft polymerization is carried out in two successive stages, in the first of which an oil-soluble organic peroxide initiator is used and at least part of the methyl methacrylate together with another monomer and, optionally, some of the alpha-methyl styrene is polymerized and in the seond of which a water soluble persulphate initiator is used and the remainder of the monomers is polymerized. Butadiene rubbers are preferred. Examples are given in which methyl methacrylate, styrene and, in some cases also acrylonitrile, are grafted on to polybutadiene in a first stage using cumene hydroperoxide as initiator and then alphamethylstyrene and acrylonitrile are added and grafted in a second stage using potassium persulphate as initiator. 1,255,814.Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer compositions. Heading C3P, Compositions comprise (1) 50 to 70 weight per cent of ethylene polymer having a vinyl acetate content of 2 to 20 weight per cent and consisting of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or a mixture thereof with polyethylene and (2) 50 to 30 weight per cent of filler comprising finely ground dolomite and calcium carbonate in proportions of 10 to 1-5 parts by weight of dolomite per part of calcium carbonate. The calcium carbonate may be coated with stearic acid, and'the compositions, optionally comprising conventional colorants, stabilizers and lubricants, may be extruded into films or moulded to form articles having matt surfaces.
