Abstract
1,170,641. Punching-apparatus. HARRIS INTERTYPE CORP. 21 Sept., 1967 [19 Dec., 1966], No. 43096/67. Heading B4B. The file hole punch of a business forms machine comprises punch and die cylinders 40, 42, Fig. 1, having keyed to the shafts thereof intermeshing gears 95, 96 which are driven from a main drive gear 80 through an intermediate gear 85 mounted on a slidable shaft 88, Fig. 2, the web 10, Fig. 1, to be punched being guided through the punch by means of rollers 25, 28, 48 and 50, the rollers 28 and 50 being pivotally mounted on worm gears 30 and 52 driven by worms 32 and 53 operable by handles 35 and 55, the arrangement being such that by pushing the shaft 88 axially by means of a handle 90 so that the gear 85 is moved from the full line position, Fig. 2, to the dotted line position, the gears 95, 96 can be rotated to provide a coarse adjustment for aligning the punch with respect to the cross-perforations connecting the successive forms to one another, a fine adjustment being obtained by rotating the handles 35 and 55, Fig. 1, whereby the web is moved relatively to the punch. The shaft 88 is clamped in each of its positions by means of a split clamp 92 operable by a rotatable handle 94. The punch can be adjusted laterally of the web by means of a handle 72. Marginal holes are punched in the web by means of punch and die cylinders 20 and 22, Fig. 1. The web then passes to a unit 15 in which cross-perforations are formed in the web and the web split into ribbons 10a. 10b and 10c.
