Abstract
1,170,598. Luminescent materials. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 25 Oct., 1966 [8 Nov., 1965], No. 47882/66. Heading C4S An alkaline earth aluminosilicate phosphor comprises up to 2À5 moles alkaline earth oxide; 1 mole Al 2 O 3 ; 0.001 to 3 moles SiO 2 and 0.0001 to 0.25 gram atoms of divalent Eu. The alkaline earth oxide may be MgO and/or oxides of Ba, Ca, Sr or mixtures thereof and Mn may replace up to 60 mole per cent of the Eu activator to increase the red component and produce a more white phosphor emission. In preparation, the starting materials may be mixed with glass beads for blending, separated from the beads, preheated at 650 C. to decompose basic alkaline earth carbonates for instance and to remove other volatiles, then fired at 1100 to 1300 C. in a reducing H 2 -N 2 atmosphere. Exalation by 2537 is mentioned.
