Abstract
1537330 Luminescent materials and uses thereof PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 April 1976 [15 April 1975] 14769/76 Heading C4S A luminescent material comprises a divalent Eu activated fluorophlogopite of formula Me#Ba and/or Sr, up to 25 mole per cent of Si may be replaced by an equimolar quantity of Ge and 1 # x # 0; 0À25 # (p+q) # 0À01; 0À25 # p # 0 and 0À25 # q # 0. Excitation may be by long or short wave U.V. radiation or electrons. Emission wavelengths and half value widths are given. The phosphors may be employed in luminescent screens in low or high pHg discharge lamps, particular applications being specified. Preparations may be by heating oxides or compounds decomposable to same. Excesses of fluorine and silicate, e.g. SiF 4 or SiO 2 and NH 4 F, may be used. Heating may be above the m.p. but is preferably below, and in several steps. At least the final heating is in a weakly reducing atmosphere to ensure bivalency of the Eu. Detailed examples are included.
