Abstract
1,170,212. Tris-(organosilylmethyl)-amines. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 24 May, 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 24920/68. Heading C3S. Novel tris-(organosilylmethyl)-amines of the general formula [(RO) n Si(CH 3 ) 3-n -CH 2 -] 8 N in which R is C 1-4 alkyl and n is 1, 2 or 3, are prepared by introducing anhydrous ammonia into a solution of a bromomethyl-alkoxysilane, (RO) n Si(CH 3 ) 3-n CH 2 Br, under atmospheric pressure, the solvent being a polar aprotonic compound having a dielectric constant greater than 25 at 20 C. Suitable solvents are acetonitrile, dimethyl formamide and benzonitrile. Partial hydrolysis of the above compounds yields products having the general formula These may be further condensed to form polysiloxanes by the addition of more water.
