Abstract

116,968. Robinson, E. Aug. 17, 1917. Limbs, artificial.-A hand adapted to hold closely articles of very different shape is provided with a thumb having transverse joints and an axial joint. The thumb can be left fixed or turned about the axial joint while the fingers and thumb are being bent. The finger-operating members 6 are connected to bars or plates 4, 5 each connected by a single member k, l to an operating-drum j to which is also connected the member m which bends the thumb. The turning of the thumb about its axial joint e is effected by a spring f and a flexible member g connected to a second drum n mounted loosely on the spindle i of the drum j. The two drums have interengaging parts but are normally separated by a spring, a pin r being provided to retain them in interengagement when desired. A cross-piece t on the pin r is adapted to engage a recess u or to be turned to occupy the position shown. The spindle i is operated by a worm w and worm wheel v.
