Abstract
1,168,928. Coiling ropes and rope like material. KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE A.G. 18 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 57288/67. Heading DIT. To coil cable or rope-like material 1 into the storage cask 12, the material 1 is wrapped around a stationary disc 8 so as to wind a plurality of turns thereon, these turns being gradually pushed down the disc 8 by a swash plate 7 rotating with a disc 4. To ensure an accurate run-off point from the disc 8 the lowermost turn of material on the disc 8 is supported by a plurality of elements 10 carried by the revolving disc 4 and arranged in a stepped or staircase-like manner about the disc 8. The lowermost element 10 in the "staircase" is diametrically opposite the point at which the material is fed onto the disc 8 by a wheel 6 revolving with the disc 4. In Fig. 1 the elements 10 are rings carried by rollers 9 that are resiliently biassed towards the disc 8. In operation only the lowermost turn of the material on the stationary disc 8 can be forced off by the swash plate 7 since as soon as this turn has been forced past the elements 10, the elements 10 will move radially inwards to support the remaining turns. To reduce the height of fall of the material 1, further guide rollers 14, 15, 16 may continue the staircase-like path formed by the rollers 9 and elements 10. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the above described rollers 9 and discs 10 are replaced by fingers (19) radially displaceable against spring means away from the stationary disc 8, these fingers (19) being tapered on the surface thereof engaged by the turns on the disc 8 such that thel owermost turn can force it way past said fingers. In a further embodiment the supporting elements 10 are replaced by ball or roller bearings. To obtain a rosette-like laying in the cask 12, there may be a cylinder 18 below the stationary disc 8, then cylinder being rotated at a speed slower than the disc 4 and being provided with an eccentric deflector 18.
