Abstract

1,044,081. Coiling. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Jan. 1, 1964 [Jan. 2, 1963], No. 59/64. Heading B3E. A winding device for axially pressing one turn against another in an axially progressing cylindrical winding for transformers, reactors or the like, wherein, the oncoming insulated turn of wire from a supply drum to the winding cylinder is pressed against the adjacent previously wound turn by a pressing mechanism which axially follows the newly wound turn of wire characterized in that axial pressure is applied by a member, e.g. a roller which advances with the winding, against the newly wound turn at a point on the circumference at which the lower edge of the new turn has passed the upper edge of the previous turn and is held by a holding device axially spaced from the previous turn at such a distance that the insulation of the turns is not exposed to shearing stress and that the device brakes the wire so that it is wound under tension. Insulated copper wire 6 is drawn off a supply reel 5 through an adjustable tensioning device 11 on to a supporting cylinder 1 driven about a shaft 2. The device 11 and the reel 5 are moved axially during winding and serve to defect the wire away from the previous turn a distance 11<SP>1</SP> to prevent the adjacent faces coming into contact during winding. Continuous axial pressure is applied to the side of the new turn at a point 15 by a spring 16 loaded wheel 14 attached by adjustable means 12 to the device 11. Alternatively hydraulically operated means may be used. Guide rollers 14<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4 (not shown), located on either side of the pressure roller 14 are mounted on a ring 17, attached to the members 12 or 13, and are axially movable, along the cylinder 1 on rollers 18 and serve to maintain the new turn against the adjacent turn. The axial pressure and the tension produced by the braking unit applied during winding is such as to produce a tightly wound coil which will withstand axial deformation due to short circuiting.
