[Also in Division C7] In a process for the preservation of an article of permeable non-metallic material, the article is impregnated with a setting composition, e.g. wax, shellac or laquer, has a conducting coating formed on the surface thereof by applying a varnish or laquer and a metal powder, e.g. bronze powder, thereto, and is electroplated to form a metallic deposit on the conducting coating. The article may be of leather, plastics material or linen and may be previously cleaned with tetrachloride or alcohol The process may be applied to shoes.
