Abstract
1,168,627. Speed governors; fluid regulation. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Feb. 23, 1967 [Dec.1, 1965], No.50928/65. Headings G3H and G3P. A speed responsive device comprises a body 14 in which is mounted a rotor 10 driven by an internal combustion engine with which the device is associated and having, at a position spaced from its rotational axis, a nozzle 16 arranged to direct a jet of fluid under pressure towards a receiving nozzle 23 disposed on the rotor in proximity to the axis thereof, the jet being deflected in use in relation to the receiving nozzle in accordance with the speed of the rotor. The rotor has an integral shaft 11 driven through gearing 12 and supplied with fluid through passages 19, 20 and a seal 21 while the nozzle 23 is formed in a sleeve 22 communicating with and providing a signal in a passage 24 for controlling fuel flow to the engine. A deflector 25 partially recovers the fluid from the nozzle 16 when the engine is running under speed to provide differentiation between over and under speeding. The deflector may be omitted or be positioned on the opposite side of the nozzle 23 and its shape may be convex or flat.
