[Also in Group XXIX] In a speed governor comprising a housing 3 having a motive liquid inlet 5 and outlet 10, a hollow body 4 rotatably mounted in the housing and a centrifugally-operated valve in the body controlling the flow of motive liquid from the inlet to the outlet, the valve closure member 15 is carried by a pivotably mounted centrifugally operable member 16 and an annular diaphragm 20 is connected at its outer edge to the member 16 and at its inner edge to a part 19 fixed to the body so as to define between the member and the diaphragm a compartment 22 which is connected to the upstream side of the valve. The body 4 is coupled to a shaft 8 driven by the governed engine and has an inlet 11 aligned with the valve-controlled passage 12 in a part 13 fixed to the body 4 and having the part 19 secured thereto. Motive liquid supplied to the housing at 5 from the engine fuel pump or other source flows between the part 13 and the body 4 and via a passage 17 in a plug 18 and a passage in the part 19 to the compartment 22 and tends to move the member 16 in the direction to open the valve in opposition to the centrifugal force. The outlet 10 is connected to a sump or to the inlet side of the pump and the pressure of motive liquid in the housing 3 acts via an outlet 6 on a device to control the rate of fuel supply to the engine.
