Abstract

1,168,584. Cooling exhaust gases; engine stop gear. EIMCO CORP. Jan.25, 1968 [Feb.2, 1967], No. 3932/68. Headings F1B and F1K. Water is sprayed into exhaust pipes 24, 26 of the engine of an underground machine through pipes 36 by a pump 28 driven from the engine. The water is supplied by a tank 30 and the pump 28, e.g. a gear or piston pump, is driven by a belt drive 42. The pipes 36 lead to spray nozzles (38, Fig. 4, not shown) facing in the opposite direction to the gas flow. An electrical sensing device 44 Fig. 5, energizes a fuel cut-off valve 50 to stop the engine if the level in reservoir 30 drops too low.
