Abstract

1,167,643. Nailing tools. A. F. MAYR, [trading as ALFRED F. MAYR-AFM-TECHNIK]. 17 Jan., 1967 [18 Jan., 1966], No. 2361/67. Heading B4C. A device for driving fasteners such as nails into hard materials comprises an impact plunger 2 driven by the combustion gases of a fired cartridge or by pneumatic pressure, the plunger and nail being guided during the driving-in operation by means of resilientlymounted elements 3. As shown, the elements 3 are in the form of balls loaded by springs 8 and held in position by openings 7 formed in a tube 6. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the elements 3 are mounted in a resilient pad 8, e.g. rubber. In further embodiments, the elements may be formed as balls interconnected by thread-like connections and moulded as one piece from a synthetic plastics material or as thin threads or resilient material stretched across a tube or as membranes having a central opening (Figs. 17 to 19).
