Abstract
1,167,324. Dry-cleaning. C. BLOCK and L. J. MINTZ. 18 Oct., 1966, No. 46533/66. Heading D1A. In a dry-cleaning system, sensing means are provided which cause the addition of a component to the cleaning fluid when the value of a property, e.g. conductivity, of the cleaning fluid falls to a predetermined value indicating a fall in the amount of this component present. Fluid from a sump 16 is circulated by a pump 18 through a filter 20 and a conduit 22 to tank 12 from which it flows back to the sump. A by-pass valve 24 in conduit 22 can be operated to direct the fluid into conduit 28 leading to sump 16 during spin-drying. A control box 30 comprising a Wheatstone Bridge network is actuated by a conductivity sensing probe in line 22 but only if fluid is passing switch 34, i.e. during cleaning and not during drying. When ordinary dry-cleaning takes place, box 30 controls pump 46 which supplies soap from supply chamber 44. When .the conductivity falls to a pre-determined value and stops the supply when the conductivity exceeds a second predetermined value. When the fluid is to include water, box 30 is reset and controls the supply of tap water through a valve 42 when the conductivity lies between two other predetermined values.
