Abstract

1,166,377. Liquid filter. H. GROSZJOHANN. 28 Sept., 1967, No. 44320/67. Heading BID. A rotary drum is divided into circumferentially spaced cells 7, which are supplied successively with suspension to be filtered and compressed air as they each pass recess 8 and an opening communicating with conduit (14) in fixed axle 2, and partly encircled by filter band 11, through which filtrate is forced leaving solids 22. Band 11 is plastics or paper and is fed from a roll 20, and supported by endless belt 12, of wire mesh with a resilient foam covering to seal the band against the ends of the drum (Fig. 3, not shown). The drum ends could alternatively have resilient edge members to engage band 11. The passages connecting cells 7 to the interior of the drum open into a frusto-conical bearing surface (Fig. 2, not shown), and the drum is axially urged on to axle 2 through which suspension and air are supplied. Either belt 12 or the drum may be driven and drives the other by friction through band 11. The drum or one of the return rollers may be adjustable to vary tension in belt 12. The band 11 could be plastics.
