Abstract

1,166,047. Central heating and cooling systems. LUWA A.G. 7 Oct., 1966 [13 Oct., 1965], No. 44978/66. Heading F4U. [Also in Division F2] A single throttling and change over valve assembly controls the flow of water through a heat exchanger in a four pipe system. As illustrated, the valve casing has heat exchanger connections 23 and 26, hot water supply and return connections 21 and 24, and cold water supply and return connections 22 and 25. The connections are separated within the easing by sealing rings 36, 37, 40, 41 and 42 in which slides a valve member 52. The valve member is connected to a cup 59 whose position is determined by the pressure in a bellows 70 which is connected through a pipe 64 to a pressurized air or oil source under the control of a thermostat. The bellows 70 act against a spring 55 whose compression may be charged by turning a threaded ring 56. The valve member has reduced section portions formed by notches 53 and at 65, which, by movement from the illustrated position will throttle the supply and return of hot water. Sufficient movement of the valve member 52 will cut off the hot water supply and return or open the cold water supply and return. The valve assembly may be controlled by a timer and a rotary valve member may be used.
