Abstract

1,164,713. Controlling change-speed gears. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT, and SOC. INDUSTRIELLE ET COMMERCIALE DES AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT. 11 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 41434/67. Heading F2D. Two sliding gear-wheels of a change-speed gear, each movable between a neutral position and a ratio engaged position, are moved by respective forks 14, 15 slidable on an axially movable shaft 13 and in bores 2 of a casing 1, simultaneous engagement of two ratios being prevented by interlocking means which allows only one fork at a time out of its neutral position. A ball 22 in a bore 20 of the sleeve of fork 14 engages either a recess 3 in the casing to lock the fork in neutral, or a recess 24 in the shaft 13 to lock the fork to the shaft. A spring- urged ball 17 in the casing is engageable with slots 16, 17 in the fork 14 sleeve to limit its axial movement, the ball being able to move between slots 16, 17 but not beyond them. The fork 15 has similar lock and stop arrangements. In the neutral position shown, circlips 26, 27 abut the ends m, n of the fork sleeves. When shaft 13 is moved rightwards, fork 14 is carried with it to engage a first ratio, a ball 8 preventing movement of fork 15, as does the ball 23 after initial movement. Similarly, if shaft 13 is moved leftwards, fork 15 is carried with it to engage a second ratio, fork 14 being locked in neutral. A stud 28 engages a flat 29 on the shaft to prevent rotation of the latter. The circlips may alternatively be between the forks, to abut their faces p, q.
