A vehicle having a load platform 1 suspended on an axle 2 by springs 4 includes hydraulic rams 7 for drawing the platform 1 down towards the axle against the action of the springs to facilitate loading and unloading. Trailing arms 5 connected to the ends of the axle are sprung by the coil springs 4 shown, or by air springs, leaf springs or torsion springs. The rams 7 are contracted under the control of the driver of the vehicle.
