Abstract
1,164,550. Pipe joints. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 18 Dec., 1967 [20 Dec., 1966], No. 57362/67. Heading F2G. [Also in Division C3] A polyurethane sealing gasket may be cast on the end of a pipe section by (a) coating the end of the pipe section with a primer to permit adhesion of the gasket material to the pipe section; (b) providing a mould from around the end of the pipe section; (c) pouring into the mould form a liquid composition obtained as described below; (d) allowing the liquid composition to cure; and (e) removing the mould form. The polyurethane composition is prepared by reacting an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer which is the reaction product of a polyether glycol of M.W. 150 to 560 and a stoichiometric excess of an organic polyisocyanate with a polyether glycol of M.W. 560 to 5600 and a polyether tetrol of M.W. 560 to 4000, in the presence of an inert filler and a catalyst for the NCO-OH group reaction at ambient temperatures (see Division C3). The primer coating may be a synthetic phenolic rubber adhesive or an epoxy resin.
