Abstract

1,144,772. Oil seals. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 16 June, 1966 [18 March, 1965], No. 11521/65. Heading F2B. An oil seal seal comprises an annular disc 5 of a material consisting of or containing a halo-carbon resin which is bonded either directly to a flange 2 of a steel support ring 3 or to an intermediate ring 4. The annular disc 5 may be made of P.T.F.E., fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer or P.T.F.C.E; anti-friction materials such as graphite or MoS 2 may be added. The annular disc 5 may be bonded to the support ring 3 by etching and then applying bonding agents to each part before joining. When an intermediate ring 4 is employed, this may be made of rubber, such as a butadieneacrylic-nitrile copolymer, or of a fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer; the parts may be joined by vulcanization or bonding. If desired, the annular disc 5 may be injection moulded on to the support ring 3. The annular disc may be flat or formed with a bell-mouth 6 during manufacture.
