Abstract
1,163,691. Solution mining. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 1 Jan., 1968 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 131/68. Heading ElF. [Also in DivisionCl] A process for the solution mining of KC1 in association with NaCI utilising brine solution undersaturated with respect to these two salts comprises, passing the brine to a subterranean formation of the salts at substantially ambient temperatures, returning the more highly concentrated brine solution to the earth's surface, adding a liquid solubility depressant to the solution causing KCI and NaCl to precipitate, separating the precipitate from the remaining liquid, dissolving the KCI with brine at a relatively high temperature to form a concentrated .solution, separating the solution from any undissolved NaCl, cooling the solution to substantially ambient temperature causing KCI to precipitate and recovering the KCI precipitate from the resultant liquid. Examples of the liquid solubility depressant are methyldiethylamine, namylamine, diethanolamine, methylethylketone, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, hexanol, ethylenediamine, allyl alcohol, 2-pentanol, 1, 7-heptanediol, tertiary butyl alcohol, erythritol, arabitol, 1,4-pentanediol, cyclohexanol.
