Abstract

1,163,287. Synchronous motors having permanent magnet rotors. SCHOBESTA S.A. 9 Nov., 1966 [12 Nov., 1965], No. 50221/66. Heading H2A. In a low-powered synchronous electric motor comprising a stator having a 1-phase A.C. toroidal winding 4 and two sets of interdigitating polepieces 7, 13 forming a cylinder within which is a rotor 14, 15 magnetized with a fixed polarity and drivably connected to a driven member via a lost motion coupling, a needle 3 rigidly fixed to the stator mounts the rotor on a ring 16 which forms part of the coupling by having parallel with the rotor axis a flat 17 which when contacting a parallel flat 22 on a ring 20 integral with an output driving pinion 21 provides the lost motion. The polepieces 13 may be formed in either a disc 11 secured to a cover plate 10, or the cover plate itself. The rotor consists of a Cu. or moulded disc 14 to which is cemented or glued a high coercive value sintered annulus 15 e.g. of ferrite, iron oxide, cobalt, and permanently magnetized to provide peripheral spaced alternate poles. Should the rotor start in the wrong direction, a spring blade 26, Fig. 8, of a disc 24 frictionally driven by a gear-wheel 23 engages a pinion 27 and so causes the rotor to rebound in the correct direction.
