Abstract

The electric motor consists of one or more thin discs carrying permanent magnets and turning within the air-gaps of further permanent magnets, the fields of these being periodically modified by a coil. The motor can take a variety of forms and has approximately trapezidal permanent magnets (4) evenly spaced around its rims. The magnet poles are to either side of the disc and are positioned within the opening of a permanent horseshoe magnet (6) the poles being set in opposition to those on the disc. A second horseshoe shaped magnetic circuit is mechanically attached to the first, open-end to open-end and is in soft-vain as ferrite with a commutator (3) on the disc shaft (2) switching the coil current via stator brushes (12).
