Abstract
1,162,438. Pipe closures. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. 27 May, 1968 [25 May, 1967], No. 24468/67. Heading F2P. A tube 2 to be protected, e.g. during storage, is closed by a plug 3 which has a right cylindrical stem portion 3 providing a force fit within the end of the tube and spacing means, e.g. an annular shoulder 4, extending around its axially outer end so that the shoulder 4 abuts the adjacent end surface of the tube 2 and has its radially outer boundary lying radially inwardly of the outer edge of the end surface of the tube, a further means e.g. an annular shoulder 6 projecting from the stem 3 radially beyond the shoulder 4 and preferably not beyond the outer surface of the tube 2. A recess 7 provides access for a suitable tool for removing the plug. If an end wall is provided at the internal, instead of the external, end as shown, the tool member, not shown, should include a core member for inserting into the open, outer end of the stem. The internal end of the stem is bevelled at 8 and in a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the junction between the sleeve 3 and shoulder 4 is undercut at (9). The plug may be made of P.V.C., hard, or medium, rubber, or lowdensity polythene.
