Abstract

1,162,360. Pile fabrics. W. R. GRACE & CO. 29 Aug., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 39515/67. Heading D1K. Particulate thermoplastic material 5 is spread on a conveyor 1, or on a rubber or fibreglass backing carried by the conveyor, and passes under a heater 4 before pile is impressed in it. Pile yarns or fabric 10 is forced into a slotted roller 7 by a blade 12 and pressed into the molten thermoplastic by the rotating roller. In an alternative, flock pile is embedded into the plastics. The fabric is passed over a cooling zone and may be embossed and/or printed by a roller 32. The method ensures that the backing is unorientated.
