Abstract
1,162,312. Laminated structural members. TECHNOLOGY, MINISTER OF. 26 Jan., 1968 [16 Feb., 1967], No. 7515/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Division H4] In an aerial assembly, structural supporting struts in front of a reflector thereof are made with a core of rigid foamed plastics material bonded on opposite sides to strips or flanges of higher tensile strength material, the planes of said strips or flanges being substantially parallel to the direction of wave propagation. As described, a Cassegrain type aerial comprises a main reflector 1 and a sub-reflector 2 which is supported by three struts 3 extending from the perimeter of the reflector 1. Each strut has a core 7 of expanded polystyrene or similar material to which are bonded two strips 8 made, for example, of steel or aluminium or marine plywood. Bonding may be effected by an epoxy resin adhesive or an impact adhesive, and the exposed surfaces of the core material may be treated with a water repellent coating.
