1,162,230. Cleaning metals. NIKEX NEHEZIPARI KULKERESKEDELMI VALLALAT. 28 Oct., 1966 [30 Oct., 1965], No. 48557/66. Heading C5D. [Also in Division C7] A composition for decomposing and removing beer stone (mainly of calcium sulphate, oxalate and phosphate with proteins and hop resin) from the surface of brewery equipment comprises by weight 0À5 to 4% of an alkyl-aryl or aryl (e.g. toluene) sulphonic acid, and at least 63% NH 4 HSO 4 in a solution which is saturated at 20‹ C. The composition may include 0À5 to 2% of an alkali metal (e.g. sodium) chromate and/or dichromate for inhibiting Al dissolution. (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 may replace up to 50%, or H 2 SO 4 up to 10%, by weight of the NH 4 HSO 4 . The composition may be applied to the dry or wetted surface, either cold as a fine crystal suspension or heated to 60‹ C. or more to completely dissolve the suspended crystals, by. brushing or spraying. After decomposing, the beer stone may be removed by a water jet or brushing.
