Abstract

1,229,582. Cleaning vehicles. ALBRIGHT & WILSON (MFG.) Ltd. 11 April, 1968 [26 April, 1967], No. 19193/67. Heading B7J. [Also in Division C7] Calcareous or iron containing encrustations are removed from railway carriages and similar vehicles by applying thereto a composition containing an acid of the formula (where R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 11 carbon atoms and X is an OH or NH 2 group) or an alkali metal-, ammonium- or acid salt thereof. R is preferably CH 3 , X is preferably OH, and the composition may also contain citric, sulphamic, or oxalic acid in a proportion of 25-75% by weight. The composition may be applied to the vehicles as a concentrated aqueous solution or a paste and removed by washing down with water. Ammonia may be added to the composition to inhibit corrosion and sludge formation during cleaning.
