Abstract
1,161,853. Refractory bricks. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE A.G. 6 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 45806/67. Heading F4B. A suspended refractory brick 2 is formed with a diverging recess 3 at its upper end, engaged by a metal hanger 1, which hanger comprises a strap portion 1a and laterally projecting end portion 1b, and is wedged firmly in the recess 3 in the brick. As shown, a wedge in the form of a refractory moulding 4 can be used, the extreme end of the angled portion 1b being bent slightly to engage the said moulding. In other embodiments, the hanger is so shaped that after having once been inserted into the recess it cannot be readily extracted, for, e.g., a heel (5c, Fig. 3) can be punched out of the portion 1b to dig into a wall of the recess, or the edge portion 1b can have a control slot (7c, Fig. 5) with the outside edges of the portion being undercut to form teeth or prongs. In such embodiments, the recess can be filled with a filler (6) of refractory mortar, refractory cement or a pourable, refractory mass. In order to prevent the portion 1a of the hanger from laterally projecting away from the face of the brick, the brick is provided with a shallow depression 2a extending from the recess 3 to the upper end of the brick.
