Abstract

375,042. Walls; building- blocks. RATCLIFF, C. W. C., Kirkdale, Dale Holiday Camp, Carperby, Yorkshire. May 23, 1931, No. 15313. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i).] A building-block for cavity walls comprises two slabs A, B connected by two tie portions C, D which project above the block and terminate above the bottom face thereof, the portion C projecting from one end of the block, and the portion D being set in from the outer end to form a corresponding recess. When the blocks are assembled to break joint, projections B<1>, B<2> formed at the mid points of the halves of the lower edge of the inner block engage corresponding recesses B<4>, B3 at the top edge. The outer slab A is inclined outwards so as to overhang the block below, a groove A<1> being formed on the lower face so that water running down the walls is forced to drip off the projecting edge. For corner blocks, the projection B<2> and recess B4 are omitted and the end containing the tie C is bent through a right-angle to form an L-shaped cavity. The projection B<1> and recess B3 occur three-quarters of the way along the inner slab from the corner thereof.
