Abstract

1,161,779. Marine jet propulsion. H. SUGIMURA. 24 Feb., 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 8878/67. Heading B7V. [Also in Division F1] A marine jet-propulsion plant comprises a gas-liquid pressurizing engine in which a pump draws in air and water separately and pressurizes them together, the pressurized air and water are separated, the air then being heated and the energy possessed by it utilized in the pressurization of the water, the pressurized water providing the jet for the propulsion of the ship carrying the plant. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 air and water drawn in through intakes 11 and 12 respectively are pressurized together by a pump 14 and delivered to a centrifugal separator 21 from whence the pressurized water flows through an opening 28 to the output nozzle 13 and the pressurized air flows past heating means 30, 31, the heated air then driving the gas turbine 16 that is coupled via gearing 17 to the shaft 19 of the pump 14.
