Abstract

1,161,155. Valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO. Ltd. 2 Feb.. 1968 [13 Feb., 1967], No. 6834/67. Heading F2V. An annular sealing ring, which is adapted to be incorporated in a spherical ball valve, (Fig. 2, not shown), is moulded from polytetrafluoroethylene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, or filled nylon, and is shaped so as to have a cylindrical portion A and an extension C which diminishes in wall thickness towards its end distant from the portion A and also flares outwardly to a small extent. In use, the ring is disposed within a uniform diameter bore, and a spring biased thrust ring, (7, Fig. 2), is made to engage the conical surface D of portion C, the thrust ring serving to ensure positive engagement of a shaped surface B on portion A with the valve ball and, together with the outwardly flared portion C, to enhance sealing engagement of the ring with respect to the valve bore.
