1,160,650. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 6 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 55514/67. Heading B6F. [Also in Division H1] Hammer impression arrangements.-A print hammer is actuated by a leaf-spring 16 biased towards an operative position and reset by magnetic flux in a core structure 12 having two polepieces 26, 28 and acting on a movable magnetic member 14 attached to the leaf-spring 16. A magnetic flux is set up in the core structure 12 by a coil 18 and an impression cycle is effected by temporarily reducing the flux by selectively actuating coils 20 which form an opposing magnetic flux. The spring 16 is formed with a striking surface 32. The pole pieces 26, 28 are mutually perpendicular and the magnetic member 14 is damped by friction against the polepiece 28 when resetting. The coils 20 are actuated by square current pulses generated by a transistorized circuit (Fig. 5, not shown). The flight time of the hammer may be altered by changing the position of a movable fulcrum 34 by a screw 36.
