Abstract
1,069,674. Electromagnets. HI-G Inc. June 16, 1964 [Sept. 24, 1963], No. 24895/64. Heading H1P. [Also in Divisions E2 and H2] On energization of coil 104 a first armature 132 is attracted against the action of a weak spring 140 and strikes a second armature 134 which is restrained by a strong spring 90. The second armature 134 thus moves under the combined action of the magnetic attraction and the momentum of the first armature 132. The core 100 of the coil is enlarged to engage' both armatures in their energized position. The magnetic circuit is completed through a shell 98 surrounding the coil and an end plate 107. A sleeve secured to armature 134 carries three balls which are normally jammed between a rod 76 and the tapered recess of a bushing 80 to latch the rod in position. On energization the sleeve is moved to the right by armature 134, releasing rod 76 which is urged to the left by spring 45 to actuate a plurality of bridging contacts carried by a rectilinearly slidable support 40. The support 40 is reset by means of a tool introduced through an aperture 16 in the switch casing.
