Abstract

A dry shaver comprises a housing 1 in which is disposed an electric motor 3 having an armature 7 rockable about a pivot 6 on an arm 2, the shaver also comprising a first cutting unit A having a foil 10 carried by the housing and a cutting part 9 reciprocable relative to the foil 10 by connection to the upper end 8 of the armature 7 and a second cutting unit B having a comb-like cutter 12 carried by the housing 1 and a comblike cutting member 13 which is reciprocable relative to the cutter 12 by means of the coupling element 21 of coupling means when the element 21 has been moved to its operative position. The element 21, which is T-shaped, is connected by a pivot 22 to an actuating element 16 which is slidable upwardly to its operative position by means of a knob 19, the element 21 being biased by a torsion spring (23), Fig. 3 (not shown) to a neutral position intermediate two end positions. The upper end 8 of the armature 7 carries a stud 14 which is rockable with clearance, when the cutting unit B is idle, between the prongs (15a, 15b), Fig. 4 (not shown), of a fork 15 carried by the cutting member 13. The actuating element 16 is provided with a recess 20 to receive the element 21 which establishes a driving connection between the stud 14 and the fork 15 when the element 16 is moved to its operative position. The upper portion 21c (Figs. 3 and 4 (both not shown)) of the element 21 is integral with a two-part slotted annular member 25 one part of which comprises two upwardly diverging wings (26, 27) which are engageable with the stud 14 and the other part of which comprises a slotted boss-like part (25<SP>1</SP>) which can enter between the prongs (15a, 15b) of the fork 15. The element 21, which may be of plastics material, is located in each of its positions by means of a detent comprising a detent member 1a provided on the housing and having two throat portions (28, 29), Fig. 3 (not shown) which can each accommodate blade-like detent members (30, 31) provided on the actuating element 16.
