Abstract

1,160,332. Hydraulic master cylinders. SOC. ANON. D.B.A. 10 Feb., 1967 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 6418/67. Heading F2F. [Also in Division E2] In a master cylinder 10 comprising a piston 14 slidably mounted in the master cylinder bore 12 and adapted to be supported in its normal position against an annular stop means in the form of a washer 30 located at the rear end of the master cylinder, the rear face of the piston is provided with a recess 22 adapted to receive the enlarged head 26 of a push-rod 28, the dimensions of the push-rod head and the inner opening of the annular stop member 30 being such that the push-rod may be disengaged from the recess in the piston without removal of the annular stop means 30. The head 26 of the push-rod 28 comprises a frusto-conical surface 46 extending into a part spherical surface 48, the largest radial dimension of the head 26 of the push-rod 28 being equal to R and the head 26 is connected to the push-rod 28 by means of a frusto-conical portion 50. The aperture in the annular stop means 30 takes the form of the shape shown in Fig. 2, having a lower partcircular portion 45 at a radius r<SP>1</SP> from the centre of the push-rod 28 and an upper part-circular portion 52 of radius R<SP>1</SP> taken from a centre offset in a radial direction from the axis of the central opening 44. The part-circular portion 52 terminates in parallel sided portions 56 which are connected to the part-circular section 54 by the sides 58.
