Abstract

1,080,513. Tappets. BRICO ENGINEERING Ltd. July 12, 1966 [July 16, 1965], No. 30255/65. Heading F2K. [Also in Division F1] A non-hydraulic tappet for use in an engine designed to incorporate hydraulically actuated tappets, comprises a body 10, formed with a chamber 11 having an inlet 12 to which pressurized oil can be fed, and a seating 13 formed with a part-spherical recess 14, adapted to engage the ball-end of an associated push-rod, and an oil through-way in which a looselyfitting plug 20 restricts the flow of oil from the chamber 11 to the outer side of the seating when the tappet is in use. The seating 13 is formed with a central aperture 16 and a cavity 17 closed by a disc 18 having an aperture 19 in which the plug 20 is located. A circlip 15 retains the seating 13 against a shoulder 106 in the body 10. In a modification, a seating 21, Fig. 2 (not shown), has a central aperture 22 in which a bent pin 24 is retained.
