A tongue 37 on the end of a suspended ceiling grid member 3 is provided with an offset portion 47 which flexes and returns to its original offset position as the tongue is passed through a slot 23 in a transversely positioned grid member, thereby preventing undesired retraction of the tongue from the slot. Tongues 37 and 51 may be provided at upper and lower zones respectively at the opposite ends of grid members such as 3 and 5 (Fig. 3, not shown), the member 3 differing from 5 by the provision in the member 3 of vertically spaced pairs of slots 55, 57 similar to the slots 23, 25 in a main grid member 1, each slot being adapted to receive a corresponding upper or lower tongue on another member. The lengths of the grid members 3 and 5, and the spacing and/or positioning of the pairs of slots 23, 25, 55, 57 permit a variety of grid patterns Figs. 11a-11g (not shown) to be obtained. The main grid members have slots 19, 21 at the ends, or intermediately at modularly spaced locations at which they may be cut to form ends, the slots 19 being adapted to receive bendable locking tabs 83 Fig. 9 of a splicing plate 11 which has a bowed struck out portion 85 which engages the slots 21 of the pair c.f main grid members connected by such splicing plate. At the walls of the room the grid members are supported by L shaped brackets 7 Fig. 7 fixed to the wall by a vertical flange 73 and connected, to to the grid member, such as 3, by a member 9 from an upright web of which portions 67, 75, 77, 79 are bent to engage, respectively with a turned over edge 71 of the flange 73, with the horizontal flange 61 of the bracket, with a vertical slot 63 in the member 3 and with a horizontal slot in the end of the member 3, the portion 77 being finally further bent over to be against the member 3 as shown in Fig. 7.
